Hello friends and romance readers! Today I wanted to share the Romantic Content Rating System here. I have this on my website, but I wanted to share it here with all of you as well.
This is a rating system I would love to see more romance readers and authors adopt. While I am grateful for reviews that share when a book is open-door (sex on the page) or closed-door (nothing shown on the page), I donโt love chili pepper ratings, simply because something thatโs 3 chiliโs for me would be way higher for someone like my mom. Itโs all subjective. But the RCRS makes it simple and straightforward. A number is assigned to every level for you to see what type of content to expect. Moving forward, I will be using this system when I talk about romance books I read and love.
RCRS was created and adapted from the original by Angela J. Ford
Level 1 - romance with very mild content (good vibes nothing physical)
Level 2 - romance with mild content (holding hands, mild kissing)
Level 3 - romance with moderate romantic content (heavier kissing)
Level 4 - romance with a bit more moderate romantic content (fade to black, implied intimacy)
Level 5 - romance with strong content (open-door with tame descriptions)
Level 6 - romance with stronger content (multiple open-door scenes with tame descriptions)
Level 7 - romance with intense content (open-door with explicit descriptions)
Level 8 - romance with more intense content (multiple open-door with explicit descriptions)
Level 9 - romance with extreme content (go ahead and use your imagination)
My books will always fall between 2-4 because that is what I feel most comfortable writing, but I read almost all levels and so my recommendations will be from most of these.

This is so helpful! I frequently read reviews to try and determine the spice of any particular novel. I would say my upcoming series is a 4 on this very helpful scale.
